Learn to sew your own Grainline Patterns Town Bag in this hands-on workshop led by local sewist, knitter, and dye artist Paige Plihal. The Town Bag is a versatile everyday purse and all-purpose project bag to store and transport your project supplies. It's the perfect project for building your confidence and refining your sewing skills.
What you’ll learn:
- How to cut and work with heavy fabrics
- How to install a drawstring closure and tote handles
- How to set rivets
- How to sew interior pockets
What’s included:
- 4 hours of instructional time in a small group setting
- Printed Town Bag pattern
- High quality cotton canvas fabric (you’ll have a choice of colors to choose from)
- Leather or canvas webbing for handles
- Use of a classroom sewing machine (you’re also welcome to bring your own)
Who this class is for:
This class is designed for the advanced beginner. You should already be comfortable using a sewing machine and have completed a few simple projects such as a pillow, elastic-waist pants, or simple top. You should understand how to thread a machine, sew using a seam allowance, and be familiar with basic construction steps like hemming and pressing.

About the Instructor
Paige Plihal is a pattern maker, fiber artist, and educator with a passion for intentional making and creative exploration. With over 30 years of sewing experience and more than a decade in educational content strategy, she helps others build skills and confidence in fiber arts. Through her website, stitchedslowly.com, Paige offers digital sewing patterns, hands-on workshops, and creative resources designed to inspire and inform.
